Perf De Castro
began Classical Guitar studies at age 13, quickly progressing to other guitar styles: electric Blues/Rock. He went on to become a celebrated fixture in the Philippine Music Industry not only as a top notch guitarist with RiverMaya, Triaxis, and FrancisM, but as a platinum-selling producer and recording engineer as well for Wolfgang, Marc Velasco, JBros and countless other bands and artists.
Coming back full circle, Perf is now concentrating on his first love, Classical and Flamenco music played on
his 10 string guitar. Perf placed 3rd in the 1999 National Music Competitions for Young Artists (NAMCYA) held at
the Cultural Center of the Philippines. Since then he has performed solo and with the PWU Philippine Music Ensemble, the PWU Guitar Ensemble, the Kasilag Guitar Quartet, and the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra in numerous prestigious concert halls such as Main and Little Theaters of the Cultural Center of the Philippines, the Philamlife Auditorium, Concert at the Park, Paco Park Presents, St. Ceciliafs Hall of the St. Scholastica's College, PCIB Francisco Santiago Theater and the Luce Auditorium of Siliman University. He was also a featured artist and lecturer at the Sandugo International Guitar Festival held July 15-21, 2002 and hosted by the island of Bohol.
One of Perf's main thrusts is to perform and premiere new music in an effort to enrich his instrument's
repertoire. He has played the premiere Philippine performances of Philippine National Artist for Music Dr. Lucrecia R. Kasilags only two works written for solo Classical guitar.
To date, he has
corresponded with composers from Great Britain, Italy, the United States and the Philippines in writing exciting new works for 10 string guitar in both solo and ensemble settings.
His Classical and Flamenco playing was developed and nurtured under the guidance of Maestro Jose Valdez, one
of the Philippines' best guitar
pedagogues and concertistes. He has performed in public masterclasses by classical guitarists Dr. Angelito Agcaoili, Michael Dadap, Janet Marlow, Jorge Orozco and flamenco guitarist Adolfo Timuat.
Perf is also a founding member of the Kasilag Guitar Quartet, one of the premiere Philippine guitar ensembles.
Aside from playing, he produced
and engineered their debut CD which was released July 2004 and has met critical acclaim around the world, having been featured in Japan's Gendai Guitar Magazine and the different Classical Guitar Internet Forums.
Perf currently resides in Duarte, CA having relocated from the
Philippines in September 2004. He has since given performances in and around Los Angeles, San Francisco Bay Area, New Jersey, Connecticut, and Oregon. He participated as a competition semi-finalist in the Portland Guitar Festival, March 4 & 5, 2005 in Portland, Oregon; and as a featured artist in the 1st International Ten-String Guitar Festival, July 7-10, 2005 in Litchfield, Connecticut.
