With a reputation as an inspired, technically refined performer, guitarist Troy King is widely recognized as an artist who brings an intense, passionate commitment to his art, and who is able to emotionally connect with audiences. As printed in The Independent (USA), "King captured the duality of dynamism and subtlety in all the pieces he performed...a powerful presence both musically and on stage".

Troy King regularly performs concerts  throughout the United States, Europe, and Latin America. His varied programs often consist of an intriguing mix of beloved guitar master- works with  important and exciting new offerings, including many world and regional  premieres. He has been heard on the BBC and frequently on National Public Radio  in both the United States and Spain. Mr. King has been a soloist with orchestras across the country, working with such conductors as Christopher Wilkins, Stephen  Smith, Paige Vickery, and T. Herbert Dimmock. Notable festival appearances have included guest artist recitals at the Interlochen Arts Festival (Michigan), the  Charlton Kings International Guitar Festival (England), the Portland Guitar Festival (Oregon), and multiple appearances as guest artist/teacher/lecturer at  the Summer Guitar Workshop (New Mexico). Frequent tours have taken Troy King to various concert venues, such as the Grove Garden Chapel and the Greenwood Centre for Music and Arts in London, St. Paul's Chapel in New York City, the Sala Carlos Chavez in Mexico City, Hawaii Public Radio's Atherton Fine Arts Center in  Honolulu, St. Mary's Church in Cheltenham, England, the Outpost Performance Space in Albuquerque, NM, and the Houston Fine Arts Center, to name but a few. Mr. King has performed for many guitar societies, including Denver, Colorado Springs, Cheyenne, Ann Arbor, Cincinnati, Baltimore, Derby (UK), Greenwood (UK), and Richmond(UK). Concerts and/or master classes at universities and conservatories include Columbia University (NYC), Cincinnati Conservatory of  Music, Shenandoah Conservatory of Music (VA), Palomar College (San Diego, CA),  Glendale College (Phoenix, AR,), Mount St. Mary's College (MD), and major  concert series performances include the "Allegro Series" in Bay City, MI, the  "Gluck Chamber Music Series" in San Diego, CA, The "Albert Louis Smith Concert  Series (MD), and multiple appearances at the John E. Marlow Guitar Series in  Washington D.C., for which the Washington  Post wrote, "Troy King displayed an assured command of the classical guitar's technical capabilities, matched with a genial stage presence that easily won over the audience of 300."

An avid exponent of chamber music, Troy King performs as part of the "Stefanovic-King Violin  & Guitar Duo" with the brilliant Yugoslavian violinist and member of  the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, Ivan Stefanovic. Troy is also half of the husband/wife guitar duo, the "Murray-King Guitar  Duo", with Kathrin Murray. The  Gloucestershire Echo (UK) wrote of a recent Murray-King Duo concert in Cheltenham, England that,"...their strong musical rapport was evident in their playing...atmospheric!" Mr. King has performed with the San Luis String Quartet and with quartets from the  Colorado and Baltimore Symphony Orchestras, as well as with many other prominent musicians, such as flautist Lisa Cella. Since 2003, he has been the Guitar Instructor/Coach for the UMBC Chamber Music Festival for High School Students, held annually at the University of Maryland - Baltimore County.

"Musique de Salon: Classical Guitar Music for a New  Belle Epoque", released on the IGW label, features Troy King performing World Premieres of works by Ricardo Iznaola and Gilbert Biberian, as well as music by Leo Brouwer, Gerald Garcia, and Roland Dyens (including Dyens'  arrangements of songs by Aznavour and Piaf). Featured on Minnesota Public Radio's "New Releases with Michael Barone", this recording has received unanimous international critical  acclaim: the American Record Guide states, "King plays with confidence, spirit, and  a natural, uninhibited musicality.", Classical Guitar Magazine (UK) hails it as "A major international debut by any standard. A  guitarist of the highest order", Les  Cahiers de La Guitare (France) says, "...the music asks for a demonic virtuosity, and Troy King has plenty of it...a talented guitarist who seems to enjoy himself so much  that his pleasure is contagious!", and Soundboard Magazine (USA) claims, "... a sense of elegance and grace characterizes the  recording...extraordinarily well played...a beautiful performance!" A new  Troy King CD recording, "Musica del Arte: Masterworks for Guitar by Latin  American Composers", has recently been released internationally on the Centaur Records label. It  features a World Premiere recording of a piece by Ricardo Iznaola, as well as works by Jorge Morel, Abel Carlevaro, Antonio Lauro, Ernesto Cordero, and Radames Gnattali. The American Record Guide states, "(King's) interpretations have a winning rhythmic impulse...harmonically  sumptuous and lyrically expansive...a complete delight!"

After giving what Soundboard Magazine described as "...a fiery performance...", Troy won First  Prize at the Fifth Portland Guitar Festival International Guitar Competition. Other honors include winning First Prizes at the Lamont Chamber Music Competition and the Montpelier Recitalist Competition, and competing in the  advanced rounds at the IV Manuel Ponce International Guitar Competition in Mexico City.

Troy King holds degrees from the Cleveland Institute of  Music and the University of Denver. His major teachers have been John Holmquist  and Ricardo Iznaola. Additional instruction includes private study in England with composer/guitarist Gilbert Biberian and participation in dozens of public  master classes. Troy lives in Baltimore, Maryland, where he teaches classical  guitar and guitar ensemble at Towson University and the University of Maryland - Baltimore County.
